The Generation 80 ...
It was a lousy monday morning today when i was confined in the solitary 2 by 2 cell of mine , lost in my own thoughts music musings and wild meanderings of incoherent mumbo jumbo which a lone guys speaks out to himself along with my usual surroundings spawning itself in all its beauty (read it as filthiness of the surroundings), when suddenly i thought about searching a particular song on Youtube which itself acted as a triggering event for my thoughts which culminated and resulted in this post after some hours and couple of pegs.
I was sitting at my lappy and was browsing through some useless sites when suddenly out of no where an idea struck my mind to search for a particular song. yes and all thaks to Youtube for making it available for me on the net itself.i watched and listened to that song and for 10 minutes i was laughing like a maniac at myself and at the generation to which i as an individual belong. Yes i belong to the generation 80 who were the guys and the gals who by their ill fate or by their magnificient luck , somehow were born during 80's or very very early in 80's or very very late in the 70's .This is what i term as the generation 80.
The founding and shaping years of life where owning a television was a luxury and if one had a color television then it was neighbours envy owners pride. it was the generation which still played all the games depending upon the season with all their heart and emotions involved in their glory, with cricket being an intimate part of it. This is the generation which witnessed Reliance World cup in 1987 and by this time there was one and only one DD National channel. The guys and gals were full of dreams and energy and looked forward to the future with a hope that things will change sooner or later for a better tomorrow. This is the generation which feeded its intellectual hunger by sitting on the road sides or on the lonely streets walking together and discussing about relevant and irrelevant topics mundane and important. This was the generation where hero cycles came up with the concept of hero ranger , the cycle which took whole India with an awe. I remember riding my friends cycle day in and day out just because it had a straight handle and wide tyres. This is also the generation which grew up listening to the soul soothing and mind numbing songs from Bappi Da and ever hot and sexy Ila Arun , this generation witnessed the rise and fall of Madhuri's Glory when she shook herself while dancing to the tunes of Dhak Dhak Karne laga. This is the generation which witnessed boom in the Caps business when a guy named Salman khan aka Prem made girls sigh while watching him wearing the "Friends Cap" in Maine Pyaar kiya lol. This generation witnessed the downfall of Amitabh and rising glory of KKKKKKK Kiran Shahrukh Khan.
I belong to the generation where Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in Pakistan and soon he had replaced the throne of god and for us the poor souls who belonged to the generation 80 , he was way beyond God.We sat in a small room watching him hit the bowlers all over the park and yet he used to get out in his 80's and finally we had burst crackers when he has scored his first of the many centuries later to come.
This was the generation which went onto watching the daily soap operas Like Shanti starring Mandira Bedi umm umm no comments about her "ek aurat ke sangharsh ki kahani " and "Swabhiman " the scintilating saga of our supercharged times which was written by supercharged sensuous writer of my times Ms Shobha De wooooowwwww, she still gives me a .....
This was the generation which witnessed the new concept in entertainment , which was never heard of ever befor in India .This was the rise of Subhash Chandra and Rupert Murdoch by placing themselves slowly on to a path that will revolutionaize the media industry in the later years to come. This generation also witnessed Govinda dancing in his most vulgar moves on the screen along with Karishma using such a great and awesome pelvic movements while dancing that a ban was put on the song by the Government for no obvious reasons. This was the generation who saw Vinod kambli cry like a baby when India suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of srilanka in the 1996 world cup. This was the generation in which Hero Group of companies made another killing by launching Hero Puch and Splendour . I still have my Hero Puch lying like a dead dodo in the garrage whom no one even cares to clean except me when i go back to home.It meant a lot to me at that time and it still does. This was the generation for which cellphone and mobiles were unheard of in their youth and i still remember the first ever cell phone i saw was when i was doing the 3rd year of my graduation in my college and i felt uneasy while handling it for the first time. I am still very uneasy with the cell phones and electronic gadgets.I belonged to the generation where owing a yahoo id or a mail account was a matter of pride for an individual. This was the generation which sat in front of the web cams for hours hoping that some day some fine moment lady luck will grace them and they can see some firangi stripping herself on the webcam.
This was the generation for which Desibaba.com was next to Sachin Tendulkar and god came later on the third spot.
This generation saw the wars between different countries and assasination of great leaders both indian and non indians. This was the generation which cared about the budget day and applauded wholeheartedly when Manmohan Singh made his debut budget as a finance minister and opened the gates of Indian Economy. This generation witnessed the rise and fall of Bill Clinton and his steamy sessions with Monikaaaa oh my my.This generation belonged to people who were dreamers and had something fixed in their minds to conquer and achieve and most of them achieved in attaining which they had dreamt of.This was the generation which was involved with peppy politics in their college life and this was the generation which killed their time by solving crosswords sitting under the tree and sipping numerous cups of tea and smokes shouting FC SC TC and last counter. This was the generation where listenin to Vanilla Ice was a big thing in their sweet 16's.This was the generation which saw and witnessed all the changes and sometimes acted as a catalyst for the change.
This was the generation who used to study late in the night , only so as to sneak into the TV room and silently watch the Playboy Show on TB6 all the time afraid of being caught, which was a russian channel and all thanks to Mrs Sushma Swaraj that it was blocked after couple of years when she became the I&B minister. This was the generation in which guys watched the porn movies by renting out the VCR and VCP fro the nearby shop and sitting in some friends home whose parents were away on the vacation. This was the generation which wandered around aimlessly chasing hot gals ,and most of the people whom i know who belong to this generation are still carrying on with this futile exercise trying their hands to woo in the gals at this age as well lol.
This is the generation 80 and when i look back now it all seems to be like a joyride and perfectly paced and yet poised with a serene calm engrossing one and all. This belonged to the guys who were youthful and energetic and yet with a questioning attitude towards the society and an act of rebel. This was the generation who witnessed and watched James Dean numerous times in Rebel Wwithout a Cause and also discussing dustin hoffmen in the movies like The graduate. This was the generation which had built it all from their sweat dust and an infinite will power so as to attain the glory and the life which they have dreamt of.
The only thing that makes me feel sad about this generation is that i have come a long way of distance from my own generation people.I hardly have contacts with my school mates who used to play along with me in the fileds. Most of them are either settled with their careers or into the fields which they wanted.Couple of them i could catch up on Orkut who are happily married and settled and also some of them even proud fathers and mothers.I feel good for them , but then there are so many friens and people who are lost and i dnt have any clue about their where abouts ,the children pue and hearty in their manouvers from the middle school, the adolscent and determined guys and gals from the high school, the rebellios and dreamy youth from the college life , the friends whom i gathered in the different places and cities.
Most of the people with whom i still have contacts are all busy enjoying their life and working their asses of to achieve the dream that they have dreamt of for themselves and have been able to do that in grand style.
And for those with whom i havent had any interactions of any kind for years , i hope and wish that they are carving out their dreams in the way they had always wanted to.
And lastly i have something to offer to you....
This is the song which triggered off this whole musing and also made me laugh all alone. This music like so many other things could have been possible only here and nowhere else.So fasten your seatbelts and enjoy Bappi Da and Ila Arun with pelvic movements all around you and burst into laughter
HATS OFF TO GENRERATION 80
"Gawdddddd I am Lovin it "
OOps am sorry ,am too old to belong to this mcdonalds or macdeeee generation lol
